I read to travel, I read to learn, I read to be entertained, and I read to share experiences with others who have enjoyed the same books. Reading takes you to a world that you have never been to before. You can visit a new place, live in a different era, or step into a different perspective. And once you have that knowledge, no one can ever take that away from you. Every book you read helps you become the person that you will become tomorrow.
The entire Middle School community will read Jerry Craft’s New Kid series. Click here for a link to Jerry Craft’s website about the series. We are also thrilled that Mr. Craft will visit Trevor Day School in September for a day of talks and workshops with the students! Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students will participate in student-led discussions in the fall. Additionally, please read at least one other grade level book of your choice. Be prepared to present and recommend the book to your classmates, since this will be the first thing that you will “book talk” in class.
Below are a list of books that both Ms. Rekate and Ms. Casey recommend. We encourage all 8th grade students to read at least one of the titles below. All are available in the SORA application and can be read either on your computer, kindle, or phone. Make sure to login to SORA with your Trevor email/portal username and password.
